To design a tranquil courtyard between two historical buildings amidst an inner city-scape. Existing coastal forest trees and shrubs to the boundary of the site will remain to maintain privacy, with the newly proposed internal courtyard mimicking intimate contemplative seating spaces with a rectilinear reflective water feature. Stepped irregular shaped planters to the edge of the courtyard creates interest and hide the ramp leading to the upper building platform.

Concrete as well as timber finishes highlight the contrast between harder and softer material. Monoculture planting species with textured foliage on vertical as well as horizontal plane reinforce the visual separation between old and new and enhance the serene sense of place.
